Black Toned Lincoln penny 1928
I've been going through a move, with all the challenges and frustrations
commensurate with that. As a result I truly appreciated this story a friend sent me
from an RV Chaplain's website.

"Several years ago, a friend of mine and  her husband were invited to spend the weekend at the husband's employer's home.   My friend, Arlene, was nervous about the weekend. The boss was very wealthy,  with a fine home on the waterway, and cars costing more than their house.

The first day and evening went well, and Arlene was delighted to have this
rare glimpse into how the very wealthy live. The husband's employer was quite
generous as a host, and took them to the finest restaurants. Arlene knew she
would never have the opportunity to indulge in this kind of extravagance again,
so was enjoying herself immensely.

As the three of them were about to enter  an exclusive restaurant that evening, the boss was walking slightly ahead of  Arlene and her husband. He stopped suddenly, looking down on the pavement  for a long, silent moment.

Arlene wondered if she was supposed to pass him.  There was nothing on the ground except a single darkened penny that someone had  dropped, and a few cigarette butts Still silent, the man reached down and picked  up the penny.

He held it up and smiled, then put it in his pocket as if he  had found a great treasure. How absurd! What need did this man have for a single  penny? Why would he even take the time to stop and pick it up?

Throughout  dinner, the entire scene nagged at her. Finally, she could stand it no longer.
She casually mentioned that her daughter once had a coin collection, and asked
if the penny he had found had been of some value.

A smile crept across the  man's face as he reached into his pocket for the penny and held it out for her to see. She had seen many pennies before! What was the point of this?

'Look  at it.' He said. 'Read what it says.'

She read the words ' United States of  America '

'No, not that; read further.'

'One cent?'

'No, keep  reading.'

'In God we Trust?'

'Yes!'

'And?'

'And if I trust in  God, the name of God is holy, even on a coin. Whenever I find a coin I see that
inscription. It is written on every single United States coin, but we never seem
to notice it! God drops a message right in front of me telling me to trust Him?
Who am I to pass it by? When I see a coin, I pray, I stop to see if my trust IS
in God at that moment. I pick the coin up as a response to God; that I do trust
in Him. For a short time, at least, I cherish it as if it were gold. I think it
is God's way of starting a conversation with me. Lucky for me, God is patient
and pennies are plentiful!

When I was out shopping today, I found a penny on the sidewalk. I stopped and
picked it up, and realized that I had been worrying and fretting in my mind
about things I cannot change. I read the words, 'In God We Trust,' and had to
laugh. Yes, God, I get the message.

It seems that I have been  finding an inordinate number of pennies in the last few months, but then,  pennies are plentiful! And, God is patient.."

Here is a sample of 3-D Printing or milling as the lego machine shows. It carves a duplicate out of foam.

But is the future much bigger? Could a future printer actually duplicate the inner workings of mechanical items? electronic items, such as an iPad?

Check it out. What do you think?

This was a most amazing story of a small group of people who came across a beautiful humback whale snagged in so much nylon netting, that she was unable to swim free. She appeared near death, but she fizzled a breath out her blowhole.
The group diligently set about cutting her free, despite the danger to themselves. She was terrified, dying and struggling until she was exhausted, but it could only take a slap of a tail fluke for an unintentional fatality.
The video is their story. Worth a look-see. Donate if you can.

Writers face a plethora of opportunities and obstacles in the goal to become published. With the upheaval in the print publishing world, whether in newspaper or in book, the prospects can appear dismal and frustrating. Humor is necessary to draw us up from the depressive state of anxiety. Stewart Lee's Comedy Vehicle helps.

I particularly like his quotation from a celeb writer who said, "When my friends found out I was writing a book, a few [emphasis on few] of them asked me what it was about."  Yes, not all his friends were interested in what he was doing, only a few. Enjoy.

Of course, there is the second part of this which you can find here: Be careful. It may be hazardous to your health. Secure yourself to your chair so you don't fall on the floor and roll around laughing.

He says it funnier than I could and his timing is impeccable. Hope you enjoyed it.

I love cleverly worded phrases. It's more impressive when they are constructed in such a way as to create a sort of Palindrome. Read it forward and read it (almost) backward, as in sentence by sentence, (not word by word or letter by letter) and it functions in reverse, although the opposite meaning results from the reversal.

Challenge: Can you write a sentence/paragraph palindrome like this? Please post.

Lyndsey Davis on writing: First, write it down, and then, get it right.

Easy to say. Harder to do. And now I’m in summer. What about August writing? The double entendre intended, am I simply writing in the month of August or writing with a profoundly erudite bent? This blog leans to the former, though I have had my learned moments.

With the summer’s heat and vacation time drawing family activities away from the normal work routines, August creates its own challenge for a writer. Acknowledging my dear friends down under, you can fill in your summer seasonal months where needed.

So what's a writer to do?

Beirut vista 1965

The August heat is on and most are heading into vacation month. My children hang with their friends, text or play video/computer games. Sharp shooters in the making.

My mind flashes back to my own childhood.

Years ago, my family escaped from Beirut, Lebanon at the beginning of the Six Day War 1967. We locked the doors of our home each carrying a single suitcase, a blanket and a sack dinner. Packing your life into a suitcase forces mega choices.

We took family photos. The sterling silverware. Coins. Several changes of clothes. The clothes were used to wrap the valuables. The Lebanese pound was worthless outside of Beirut and we ended up first in Athens, Greece and then in Limosal, Cypress. The transition was quite miraculous and life along the Mediterranean? Well it is

There is nothing like a good gut laugh. Politics gives us lots of opportunities, given that politicians are often the butt of jokes.

This comedian turns the tables and points the finger of political humor at the voters.

Comedy is the highest form of writing, in my book. It combines brilliant language with the delivery of perfect timing.

I just discovered this wonderful site via a friend. What is in a handful of sand? Check out sandgrains.com and discover the beauty of sand magnified 250 times.

Check it out. Beautiful photos of sand grains. What wonders God has created for us to enjoy.

Happy Sunday! Enjoy a handful of sand.

Warehouse 13 has remained a favorite of mine for two seasons. An avid Science Fiction fan, I love the quirky characters and paranormal warehouse with its steampunk style. Saul Rubinek hits the top 20 favorite actors list for me, consistently. His parts show depth and his ability to be credible with the slimmest of lines amazes me.

Granted, he has had to stretch with Warehouse 13, given some of the silly things he's been forced to do on the show. Still I hoped that season three would start with a bang...a sizzle...some steam punk paranormal thing requiring the cool Tesla gun.  It started out beautifully with an electric storm over electric guitars.  Read my review of Season three episode one under Reviews TV http://lyndseyrosedavis.weebly.com/warehouse-13.html
